Items containing merchandise or samples and/or whose contents are valued at more than 200,000 Yen (JPY), should also be accompanied by two copies of the relevant invoices in order to expedite customs clearance.

As from 1 October 2016, Japan Post Co., Ltd will charge special fees from recipients that consign the customs clearance procedure to Japan Post Co., Ltd on items with a dutiable value in excess of 200,000 JPY.

Parcel Despatch Note.

Items containing merchandise or samples, and/or whose contents are valued at more than 200,000 Yen (JPY) should also be accompanied by two copies of the relevant invoices in order to expedite customs clearance.

Prohibitions1Fresh fruits of citrus, wampi, loquat, plum, peach, pomegranate, fig, papaya, longan, litchi, carabola, guava, avocado, rambutan, betel nut, santol, tomato and plants of egg-plant, breadfruit, jackfruit, star apple, rose apple, java-apple, mangosteen, capsicum and mature banana; live vines, leaves and fresh fruits of cucumber, watermelon, muskmelon and pumpkin; coca and coca leaf; counterfeit, defaced or imitation currency bills and coins, banknotes and securities; stamping implements producing the seals or marks resembling stamp tax seals; articles for opium smoking; articles prejudicial to public order or morality e.g. films, books, pictures, video tapes, card, paintings by hand, engravings and sculptures; articles which violate rights to patents, registered patterns, designs, trademarks, copyrights and neighbouring rights, handguns, firearms, their components and accessories, ammunition, weapons; narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances and other illegal substances; meat and meat products.
Restrictions1Animal products can only be imported into Japan when they are accompanied by Certificates of inspection or copies of them, made up by the competent authorities of the country of origin and testifying that they do not give rise to any fear concerning the spreading of infectious diseases of domestic animals; products made from Indian hemp may be imported by experimenters registered with the competent authority and holding a permit from the Minister of Health and Welfare; salt; explosives, yellow phosphorous matches; imitation handguns and other imitation firearms, swords may be imported if addressed to persons in receipt of a permission from the competent authorities for possession of the said weapons; postage stamps from which the postmark has been removed (may be imported if not intended for use).

Plants and plant products (requires phytosanitary certificate from the appropriate government agency of the exporting country for most of these products). Any mail items containing plants sent to Japan will be inspected by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries of Japan, regardless of the number of items or the purpose of the plants (e.g. commercial, research, personal consumption). In addition, senders should note the following points:
 
  1. Confirmation of import conditions: senders should confirm the applicable import conditions, as provided in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries database available at www.pps.go.jp/eximlist/Pages/exp/conditionE.xhtml. The import conditions applicable to plants depend on the exporting country and the plants in question.
  2. Attachment of inspection certificate: an inspection certificate issued by the plant quarantine authority of the exporting country must be attached to the mail item. Depending on the exporting country and the plants in question, clearance for import will not be granted unless special notes are included on the inspection certificate. Senders are asked to provide the inspection certificate inside the mail item or to attach it to the outside of the mail item.
  3. Import in parcels or small packets only: the import of plants by mail is limited to parcels and small packets only.
  4. Label recommendation: it is recommended that a label be affixed to the outer packaging of mail items, bearing the wording “Contains plants”, “Requires plant inspection”, “Plants”, “Plant seeds” or similar.

Sealing
 
Insured parcels may be sealed by adhesive tape covering each seam of the wrapping material. Each strip of adhesive tape must bear the private stamp or signature of the sender, at the time of posting. The adhesive tape to be used should be of good quality and not ordinary scotch-tape.

Note: Postal item containing goods. It is of vital importance to provide addressee’s mobile phone number on the customs declaration form. Once the postal item is received by the destination’s Customs authority, the addressee will be contacted for further customs declaration and payment of customs duties and taxes. The mobile phone number will serve as the only credential for login purpose in the destination’s customs declaration system.

Customs regulations regarding the clearance of personal online orders.
  1. Parcels valued at less than 200 Jordanian dinars (JOD) will incur a customs-processing fee of 10% of the parcel value. No extra taxes or fees will be applied. The minimum customs fee is 5 JOD, even if the value of the shipment is less than 50 JOD;
  2. Parcels valued between 200 and 1,000 JOD will require a simplified customs declaration process and the customs tariff will be applied;
  3. Parcels valued above 1,000 JOD will be subject to an import customs declaration process and the customs tariff will be applied;
  4. The above provisions exclude commercial parcels, regardless of their value, as well as electronic cigarettes, tobacco and alcohol, where applicable customs tariffs and fees will be applied.

Restrictions1Restrictions apply to the importation of alcoholic liquors and plants.
