Customs Duty | Inherited goods originating from abroad are allowed into Georgia, free of customs duty, if certificates are received from foreign consulates as regards the right of inheritance and the composition of the legacy. Customs Clearance Fees | As from 1 March 2018, Deutsche Post DHL will charge recipients a single customs clearance fee of 6 EUR, inclusive of VAT, on all imported postal items that are not free of duties or taxes and for which Deutsche Post AG incurred import taxes and/or customs duties on behalf of the recipient. |
Prohibitions1 | Letters, except those exchanged between the sender and the addressees of the parcel or persons residing with them; absinthe; artificial wine; bees and used beehives; butane gas; dried meat; paper for bank-notes; publications; pornographic materials (publications, sound or visual media, etc), which infringe penal legislation; illustrations etc contrary to Germany and democratic principles; veterinary vaccines; feathers, feather shafts and scrap feathers in the raw state; live animals; lithium batteries and cells (including devices/appliances containing these batteries and/or cells). |
Restrictions1 | Meat and meat products (except venison), poultry meat and poultry meat products; Milk and milk products; animal products, hides, skins etc; sodium nitrates; malt-based beer; eggs and egg products; military materials; microbes; new medical products; spirits; raw tobacco, tobacco products and cigarette papers. Phytosanitary goods (plants or seeds) which originate from outside the EU and are addressed to Germany must be accompanied by a health certificate. Plants lacking such a certificate are no longer permitted for importation into Germany or the other EU countries. Furthermore, every type of seed needs a phytosanitary certificate for import issued by the country of origin. |
Invoices | An invoice, in duplicate, should accompany each parcel, attached to the customs clearance. |
Import Licences | Goods sent by post are subject to import regulations. Import licences, however, are not required for certain goods not exceeding EUR 22 in value. Senders of parcels to Germany are advised to ascertain before posting that correct procedure is being followed by the German importer. |
Gift Parcels | Gift parcels are accepted without import licences provided they do not contain any items such as sweetening substances or drugs for which special import regulations are in force. Customs charges will not be raised on gift parcels sent by private persons to private persons provided that:
Seasonal (Christmas, birthdays and so on) gift parcels addressed to close relatives are admitted free of customs duty provided they contain reasonable quantities such as one bottle of spirits, 50 cigars or 100 cigarettes. Parcels and custom declarations should be clearly marked GESCHENK-SENDUNG (Gift Parcel) and the declarations should indicate all the items contained and their value. |
Packing | All parcels must be strongly packed. |
Address | All postal items must bear complete addresses and correct postcodes (in the following format) to facilitate delivery:
|
Address on goods delivery | In view of customs regulations, postal items containing goods and originating from a non-EU country must not be addressed directly to parcel lockers (DHL Packstation), service points (postal outlets and DHL Paketshops) or post office boxes (Postfach). The rationale behind this requirement is that the address of the recipient (individual or business) is necessary for customs declaration purposes; the German customs authority does not accept customs declarations that provide a parcel locker, service point or post office box as the recipient’s address. Therefore, shipments addressed directly to one of the aforementioned options may be rejected by the German customs authority and returned to the sender in the origin country. Keywords in the address fields indicating the use of such options include “Packstation”, “Postfach”, “Postfiliale” and “Postnummer”. |
