Integrated 4PL platform to reshape eCommerce Logistics
This interview with Li Yu, CEO of International, SingPost, was first published in Asia Business Review titled: "SingPost sees integrated 4PL platform and AI to reshape e-commerce logistics."
In an interview with Asia Business Review, SingPost's CEO for International Business, Li Yu, shared the significant surge in e-commerce growth in the Asia Pacific region.
With 70% of SingPost's $1.9 billion revenue stemming from logistics capabilities, Li anticipated a transformation in the eCommerce logistics sector through technologies like autonomous guided vehicles and AI analytics. SingPost's strategic acquisitions in Australia, particularly FMH and its subsidiary Couriers Please, have played a pivotal role, contributing to 91% of its total operating profit. However, Li acknowledges challenges such as labour shortages, inflation, and ESG considerations within the industry.
Li underscores the need for collaboration among Universal Postal Union (UPU) member operators to enhance eCommerce delivery. This involves bilateral agreements, promoting international trade, and ensuring cost efficiency. Discussions within the UPU contribute to shaping policies, minimising disruptions, and identifying industry growth areas. Collaboration is deemed a key duty for achieving competitiveness in the evolving landscape.
In response to how SingPost embraces digitalisation, Li emphasised on digital investment, smart data analytics, and infrastructure development to enhance logistics capabilities. SingPost aims to leverage the 4PL model as a supply chain orchestrator, offering integrated solutions for clients. Advancements in emerging technologies, such as autonomous robots and AI-powered analytics, are highlighted as essential components in addressing challenges and seizing opportunities in the logistics sector.
In pursuit of sustainable growth, Li highlighted the importance of upskilling the workforce, aligning management performance with ESG metrics, and making strategic digital investments.
SingPost's dedication to building a transshipment hub and forming partnerships, as manifested in the partnership with SATS, demonstrates their commitment to better serving eCommerce flows and improving logistics solutions in the Asia-Pacific region.
