New Zealand Post has advised that heavy rain in the South Island of New Zealand since 28 May 2021 has led to significant and extensive floods and landslides, road closures, and bridges damaged and destroyed. A state of emergency has been declared for the entire Canterbury region.
New Zealand Post’s Southern Operations Centre (SOC) in Christchurch (the administrative centre of the Canterbury region), the main hub of the delivery network in the South Island, has been negatively impacted in managing the flow of mail around the island. Delivery operations are suspended in all areas where the state of emergency has been declared, and operational teams have been instructed to cease delivery in any areas where conditions are deemed unsafe by the authorities. Transport, processing and delivery operations for the entire South Island (postcodes 7000 to 9999) are likely to be disrupted, and New Zealand Post has declared a situation of force majeure.
