SingPost partners the Ministry of Social and Family Development to Celebrate Singapore Women with a commemorative stamp

Singapore, 13 November 2021 – Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) will issue a special stamp on Monday, 15 November 2021 to celebrate Singapore women. The single commemorative stamp is a collaboration between SingPost and the Ministry of Social and Family Development (MSF), as part of MSF’s efforts to commemorate the Year of Celebrating SG Women.

Jointly designed by Ms Casey Ng, an artist with special needs from Singapore Fashion Runway, and Ms Agnes Tan, a stamp designer, the Celebrating SG Women stamp design is inspired by the Celebrating SG Women logo and features words, such as courage and resilience, used to describe positive attributes of women in Singapore, their achievements and support their continued progress.

The Celebrating SG Women logo features three silhouettes to form the image of Singapore’s national flower, the Vanda Miss Joaquim, representing the past, present and future SG Women, as they progress through the times as an integral part of Singapore’s collective social advancement. The colours, represented as a spectrum, represent the diversity across generations and all walks of life.

Minister of State for Social and Family Development Sun Xueling said: “Our Singapore women have made much progress over the years. This specially-commissioned Celebrating SG Women stamp is part of our journey to recognise the many roles that women play in our society and celebrate their achievements. Just like the values embedded on the stamp, I hope we can continue to highlight, affirm and recognize the contributions of our Singapore women and work together in partnership to foster a fairer society where women are supported and empowered to reach their fullest potential.”

Ms Neo Su Yin, SingPost Chief Executive Officer for Singapore said that the stamp represents SingPost’s tribute to Singapore’s women.

“We are proud to partner MSF for this commemorative stamp to recognise the importance of women in our society, and more importantly, play our part in fostering a more inclusive society that emphasises equality for all.”

2021 as the Year of Celebrating SG Women

The Ministry of Social and Family Development has dedicated 2021 as the Year of Celebrating SG Women.

From our nation’s early years, the progress and achievements of our SG Women – our mothers, sisters, daughters, friends and colleagues – have shaped our homes, schools, workplaces and communities, thus bettering every aspect of our society. Their contributions are integral to our Singapore Story and SG Women are highly valued. We believe more can be done collectively to support, protect and uplift them.

While fundamentals of our legislation and policies remain strong, the Government continues to look ahead to understand the aspirations and needs of SG Women, and to ensure laws and policies evolve with time. The Conversations on Singapore Women’s Development (see Annex A) was launched in September 2020 as part of a broader government effort to engage Singaporeans on important issues, to listen to views when crafting and adjusting policies. Nearly 6,000 Singaporeans, both men and women, from all walks of life have contributed valuable views and ideas across 160 sessions. All feedback and ideas will be consolidated into a White Paper, which will be tabled in Parliament in early 2022 At the broader level, the movement has also brought together many corporate and community partners who joined hands in spreading the word on breaking gender stereotypes at home and at work.

With respect as the cornerstone of the rapport between women and men, Singaporeans are invited to come together to celebrate the achievements of the nation’s women and support their continued progress. We also celebrate our men who help debunk stereotypes, change mindsets and play an active role in supporting and uplifting SG women.

The Government will continue to work with our partners, the community and all Singaporeans towards ensuring equal opportunities in the workplace, providing support for caregivers and enhancing protection for women, and fostering a better, fairer, and more inclusive society for generations of Singaporeans to come.
