Singapore, 7 February 2022 – Singapore Post Limited (SingPost) today issued a set of stamps to mark the 50th anniversary since the formation of DSO National Laboratories (DSO).
The set of six stamps commemorate five decades of science and technology research and development (R&D) to sharpen the edge of Singapore’s defence and national security. The stamps are designed in a sleek, futuristic graphical style, featuring various aspects of DSO’s expertise and focus.
DSO traces its roots to the Electronics Test Centre (ETC), which was set up in 1972. ETC was the brainchild of Singapore’s first Minister of Defence, Dr Goh Keng Swee, who recognised that the technology edge is necessary for Singapore to overcome its geographical constraints. ETC began with three engineers handpicked by Dr Goh to study Electronic Warfare. Today, DSO has more than 1,600 research scientists and engineers with deep technical expertise in a wide range of scientific fields and engineering disciplines.
DSO delivers advanced technological solutions across the domains of land, sea, air, space and cyberspace to address unique operational needs; and to enable transformation of the Singapore Armed Forces to meet evolving security challenges. Apart from meeting current needs, DSO develops emerging technologies that have potential to be game changers for the future.
Sale of stamps
The stamps (valued between 30 and 90 cents each), Pre-cancelled First Day Covers (S$5.20) and Presentation Packs (S$6.25) are on sale from today (7 February 2022) at all post offices, Philatelic Stores and online at shop.singpost.com, while stocks last.
